HENDERSON. The past is present again at this popular museum, which traces area development from prehistoric times to the modern era. Of particular note is the focus on American Indian groups (including Anasazi, Paiute, and Mojave), who left an indelible mark on southern Nevada's history; their pottery, housewares, and jewelry are on display. The history of gaming is the theme of another exhibition, beloved by tourists enamored of poker and blackjack. Step outside for a collection of regional flora and for transplanted historic structures, restored to their original conditions on "Heritage Street."

OVERTON. The ancient, mysterious Anasazi civilization is brought to life at this museum. With the construction of Hoover Dam, Lake Mead threatened a number of original Anasazi dwellings. The museum showcases artifacts retrieved from the flooded sites, including an impressive collection of pottery, tools, maize-grinding implements, jewelry, and arrowheads. With distinctive black and white geometric designs, the pottery and potsherds are especially beautiful and representative of the rich Anasazi culture.

NORTHWEST LAS VEGAS. Located in Lorenzi Park, one of the oldest parks in Las Vegas, the Nevada State Museum is home to a variety of permanent and changing exhibits including subjects from the Earth sciences to biological and natural history. There is also a "virtual exhibit" where visitors can get a glimpse of Nevada's history and its progress into the present. The Nevada State Historical Society is headquartered here to answer all your queries about the region's past.

DOWNTOWN. If life is what happens in between baseball and football seasons, then this attraction featuring one of the world's largest private collections of sports memorabilia is just the ticket. The sporting theme is apparent throughout the Las Vegas Club Hotel, even in the staff's uniforms. Autographed photos, balls, gloves, bats, jerseys, and bronzed shoes are all on view. Appealing enough even for non-sports buffs.
